About
When Allie, 18, discovers that her mother has passed away, she is forced to return home and confront her father Max, an astrophysicist who has always been more focused on her career as a scientific prodigy than her need for love. Tired of the pressure, Allie ran away to find her own life, cutting off all contact with her father. Allie tries to salvage her relationship with her sister Emily, long neglected by her father for her lack of scientific ability, by helping her fly a kite. However, Allie bears only bitterness towards her father. When he accuses her of abandoning the family, she confesses that she has been keeping in touch with her mother. Shocked by this revelation, he searches through his wife's things and discovers Allie's letters. In the meantime, Emily tells Allie that she kept her Christmas present for her. They open the box and find a telescope inside. Emily wants to try it out. Max joins them on the balcony. He asks where Emily found the telescope. He reveals that he bought the gift for Emily, but her mother was afraid it would place too much pressure on her. Max and Emily walk inside; Allie stands alone on the balcony, staring at the night sky. The next morning, Allie and Max finally discuss their past. Max tells Allie not to sacrifice her gift because of him. Later, Emily sees her kite in the air--the two girls rush outside, where Max is flying the kite.
